Human impacts, habitat quantity and quality affect the dimensions of diversity and carbon stocks in subtropical forests: A landscape-based approach

چکیده

Fragmentation is recognized as one of the main factors affecting species and functionality losses in tropical landscapes. In this study, we assess how landscape quality quantity affect taxonomic functional diversities carbon stocks Atlantic Forest. We used a large dataset, which comprises 92,754 adult trees 668 species, distributed over an area 95,733 km2 state Santa Catarina, southern Brazil. each plot, quantified diversity (species richness), (functional aboveground stock related it to different metrics (fragment total area, number fragments, edge index largest fragment, effective network size aggregation index) anthropogenic impacts three surrounding buffers (radius 1000, 3000 5000 m). built multiple regression models, selecting best models (Akaike's criterion), influence on stocks. Our study shows that quality, effects are negatively stock, reinforcing small-scale exploration, within fragment itself, important factor reducing stock. The importance considering local exploitation has implications for conservation, these results bring insights especially forest fragments anthropized landscapes, where exploration interfere conservation maintenance biodiversity ecosystem functioning.
